Central to the aims of Mekar Bhuana are the tangible results of our projects, including audio and video recordings as well as reconstructed performances using antique instruments. Hiring our troupes also supports our ongoing documentation, reconstruction and study activities.

We’ve been recording professionally, in the field, at practices, and live since 1997. Many of these are historic as they are previously unrecorded court and archaic style gamelan pieces that have been reconstructed from vintage field recordings, the memories of village elders, and sometimes notation. We have even made recordings of previously unrecorded ensembles.

As you know, selling music (especially uber estoric music as this) makes no money. We only release it to “get it out there”. To continue recording, however, we need your support. Donate so that we can make more incredible tracks!
